At the core of the NavDog.com mapping system is the Geographic Business Intelligence Engine (GBIE). This intelligent search engine collects information from a user's actions (zooms, pans, clicks, etc) and uses that information to derive a user’s interests and motivations. Those interests and motivations are then used to deliver content tailored specifically for that user and session.
Interests might include “beaches” because the user is currently viewing the west coast of Florida at a zoom level where beaches show up and the user has been clicking or hovering over several beach map items or beach related map items (e.g. snorkeling outfitter).
Motivations might include “plan a trip”. Because we know some basic details about the user (they live in Denver) we can infer that the user’s motivation is to travel to Florida.
By combining derived interests and motivations, we can therefore infer that the user wants to go to the beach while visiting Florida. From their user profile, we also know that the user is a 35 year old male who is married with kids and enjoys fishing. Given all this information, the system can now deliver content specific to the user and the particular session. In addition, this system can be leveraged by our advertisers to deliver targeted messages or offers to users in real-time.
